Work through these in order. Each step is something you can perform and report back on without opening the enclosure or swapping parts.
Print the built-in nozzle check pattern and photograph it. Banding that maps to missing segments in the pattern points to clogged or weak nozzles.
Print and apply the alignment pattern. If the banding is directional or shifts between passes, alignment corrects it — a common cause after a head strike or a move.
Confirm the correct media type, the platen gap and that the paper feeds straight without skew. Periodic banding locked to the feed points to media or transport.
Set the correct quality mode and test bidirectional print on and off. A mis-set driver often adds banding that has nothing to do with the head.
Run one cleaning cycle and repeat the nozzle check. If segments return, the fault is ink flow; if banding persists after cleaning and alignment, note that for the specialist.
